@pcambra I know - despicable of me, especially since I enjoy anime

Pedro Cambra replied to note03/04/2026 - 14:53

Do people whose native language isn't English just have to learn English before they can program? That seems pretty shitty of us just because English speakers were the first to make computers. It'd be ... Rough ... For me to have to learn kanji before I could code

So Anthropic employees are using Claude Code to contribute AI-generated code to open source repositories and hiding the fact using their own internal “undercover mode”.

Totally trustworthy people.

(And open source project that at the very least requires disclosure of AI-authored contributions should immediately ban Anthropic employees on principle.)

@pcambra I haven't followed perks of DA Org Members very closely, but https://www.drupal.org/association/organization-membership says "Members receive early access & deep discounts to Event sponsorships, Drupal.org Advertising, & DrupalCon North America tickets." Depending on how "deep" the discount & the #, that may be worth joining as a Community Organization Member. From the DA perspective, it makes sense to normalize the DrupalCon income as much as possible the same way NPR normalizes donations w/ evergreen memberships

@kreynen not possible atm with the licensed model for Europe afaik.

Pedro Cambra replied to note01/04/2026 - 16:13

@pcambra Agree prices are high, and a challenge if you don't have a sponsoring organisation. We would welcome you to join the team and apply for a mentor ticket. I'm sure you'd be an awesome mentor!

@lostcarpark thanks 🙃 I've volunteered for DrupalCon in all the roles possible already, but I wouldn't be doing it in the foreseeable future while a non-transparent model ins in place (currently the European DrupalCon one) where a private company profits from volunteer work from the community. I think it is quite unfortunate and doesn't help the community.

So prices for 2026 in the US were: $575 for early bird, $700 regular and $850 for "late". All tickets over 20% cheaper across the board.

But in Europe: 650€ for early bird, 895€ for regular and a whooping 1165€ for "late". The only thing cheaper from Vienna 2025 is early bird.

This is for a conference that does not pay accommodation or travel to speakers.

Thanks to the licensed model I guess, private companies must profit from the European community.

@drupalassoc
What you don't seem to grasp is that *no single US location* is acceptable right now.

No amount of "it's close to Disney" or "Equality Index score" or "strong Drupal community" is going to change the fact that you're choosing to organize an event in a fundamentally unsafe climate for LGBTQ+ *and* foreign travelers *and* so many others.

And you're legitimizing the Trump administration's actions and making it abundantly clear all is well and business comes first.

The relentless AI focus and tone-deafness of the Drupal Association continuing to organize Drupalcon North America in the US - and in Florida of all states - have broken something inside me.

I love the tech. I loved the scene. I looked up to the leadership.

But we've grown so much apart in so many ways I'm not sure this village is for me anymore.

I never was a prolific contributor and I wouldn't be missed, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one drifting away.

💔

@jpoesen leadership decisions have been quite questionable for many years and imho have damaged the project grassroots but luckily there are plenty of spaces to contribute and collaborate, including local events!

My book Understanding Drupal: A Complete Guide to Caching Layers is now published on LeanPub!

It covers the full caching stack: cacheable metadata, cache backends, render caching, response caching, HTTP headers, reverse proxies and CDNs, debugging, and writing cacheable code from scratch.

Three years in the making — worth it.
